The Duke's European Metal Odyssey - Page 3

Much hilarity can be gleaned from viewing frontman Jonas Kjellgren's attempts to be scary. Certainly, you wouldn't wanna spit on his face and call him a whore, but he still looks much too cuddly for to be truly psychotic.

This ain't the kinda stuff what The Duke would often relax to, although for a second I was pretty sure I noticed a Carter Family influence on, I think, Totalitarian Torture. However, I know enough, and have heard enough of the motherfucking thrashing in my day to know what's good, and this, being Destroy Live! by Carnal Forge, is very very good indeed.

And again, this concert seems to be filmed in Krakow. What the fuck is going on in Krakow anyhow? Maybe a load of metal bands all realised that they needed a concert DVD and just hired the place for an evening.

Not only were Green Carnation playing there, like, a couple paragraphs ago, but I'm pretty sure that one of those Acid Drinking sons a bitches mentioned it too.

Carnal Forge also offer a couple of bonus mini-concerts, though, being a brilliantly intense affair from New York, and another from Japan.

Plus, there's the usual interviews and so on.

So, then, The Duke returns to the calmer oceans of The Flying Burrito Brothers or some shit, and puts this European Metal Odyssey behind him for now. I will, however, keep an eye out for these Carnal Forge chancers, and if you're the kinda person what likes, say, Slayer or Will Haven or songs called things like I Smell Like Death (Son Of A Bastard) and Intro #2, then why not click on over to The Carnal Forge Slab Of Web-Net.

All these DVD's can be ordered via www.musicvideodistributors.com

Thanks folks.

"..even Rob Halford, the fella what used to sing about Breakin' The Law, Breakin' The Law and Living After Midnight as frontman for, I believe, The Iron Maidens."

DUKE?????? HELLO? are you there?? Iron Maiden???

at least you got the song titles right.

    J-U-D-A-S P-R-I-E-S-T.
that would be Judas Priest, whom Halford is back with, by the way.

Also, I'm rather curious as to how you came to the conclusion that "there's a frightening number of bands playing very dated, occasionally very bad, progressive rock and also thrash and so on." via the admitted inspection of 3 DVD's, which coincidentally only contain 3 different (in your opinion, although I've only heard Carnal Forge and even you said they were pretty good...) bands.

    Just wonderin' is all.

jim, i agree, that would appear to be a gross gneralisation on my behalf (the "frightening number..." thing), but one band like acid drinkers is surely a frightening enough number.
As to Mr Halford, i must admit to being a tad mischevious.
Metal Works, the 2-disc priest set, is sitting not three foot from me at this minute.
