Endless rain, a ton of damage, and a lot of broken hearts. Cedar Rapids was dubbed "Iowa’s Katrina." 4,000 homes evacuated, cars completely underwater, everything a muck. There were millions of dollars in damage.
Country star Taylor Swift, with hits like "Our Song," "Teardrops on My Guitar," "Should’ve Said No," and "Picture to Burn," has shown her generous side, donating $100,000 to the local Red Cross in Cedar Rapids plus putting on a great show for fans in the storm-devastated area.
"The people in this town have been through so much loss this year, and my heart goes out to them," Swift tells People Magazine. "They've stood by me, they gave me a sold-out show. You've got to pay it forward in life – that's all I did in Cedar Rapids."
The 18-year-old sweetheart announced her donation during the concert last Friday, August 8th in Cedar Rapids. She almost canceled thinking that only a few people would come to the sold out show, but the mayor of the disaster-torn town asked her to perform anyway.
This wasn’t the first good deed Taylor has done either. The merchandise sales from the CMA Musical Festival earlier this summer went to the Nashville Red Cross. Her record label gave her a new pink pick-up truck for her 18th birthday in January, which she donated to a youth camp for kids with serious medical conditions. On top of all of this, she worked closely with Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen to prevent children from sex crimes on the internet.
Taylor Swift’s career is taking off too; she’s toured with country hits Rascal Flatts and Brad Paisley. She was nominated for the Teen Choice Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards. Her debut has sold over three million copies and her sophomore Album, Fearless, is set to be released November 11th.
