Octagenarian Mississippian T-Model Ford plays ragged, raunchy, wild and wooly juke joint blues that makes the North Mississippi Allstars sound like Kelly Clarkson. Like fellow members of the recurring Juke Joint Caravan Tour (Paul Jones and Robert Belfour) of Fat Possum artists, Ford beats his fuzzy electric guitar with vicious abandon and chugs to a beat that careens around corners but always keeps at least 2 wheels on the road.
He sings about traveling, women, and chicken heads - all three of which he mostly likes. Ford has been to prison - for stabbing a man to death in a barroom brawl - which he doesn't like. He doesn't read well, has 26 children by five women, and didn't pick up a guitar until he was 58 years old. Now THAT'S a bluesman.
Ford's most recent release, Bad Man, is much slicker and the worse for it - stick with this one for ragged glory.
