DJ CINCO P8, repping soulsounds from coast to coast, set aside some bandwidth to give us a taste of the eclecticism in all six of his senses. In preparation for his Galoka gig (SUNDAY MARCH 16TH - GALOKA.COM - SAN DIEGO. RECOGNIZE. BOOKMARK. ATTEND), we got to vibe with this cat a little bit. It's always a pleasure to find an opportunity to speak with artists who, most usually, let the music do the talking for them. Read on, peeeeples. Read on:

- why CINCOP8? why the name.

DJ CINCO P8: I love syncopated rhythms. They make my toes tap, and get me moving. It's an element in music whether it's dance or not that makes people dance or makes them happy. It might have something tied into your heart rhythm...

- how long have you been spinning?

DJ CINCO P8: I've been spinning since I was 16. We had a crew of about 4 guys back in high school. We used to do house parties. It was lots o fun. So I've been doin' it for 10 years.

- what moves you about music? how does it make you feel? what does it make you see?

DJ CINCO P8: There is usually a certain vibe or sound that conjures up something in me. I can't really explain it, it usually gets my heart rate up, causes me to loosen up when I'm dancing. Actually this tends to happen more with hip hop than with any other genre, and it doesn't happen very often either, but when it does...

Music makes me happy, plain and simple. It's a drug. Even depressing music makes me happy because it's speaking to me in some way. And I'm relating to it. I think that's a cool relationship to have.

- how do you want your audience to feel about music?

DJ CINCO P8: I want my audience to learn about music. To understand the sounds and where they come from. Syncopated rhythms are prevalent throughout africa and latin america. Most music has its roots in African music. Although I really don't consider myself a teacher (there are other artists who have this down and I don't really want to put myself in their league), I do want people to listen to sounds and how they connect. I also want people to dance. In the end, a good party is a good party when folks are happy, celebrating, are positive, and are dancing.
