Soundtrack: Scooby-Doo 2. Monsters Unleashed

A few thoughts about the soundtrack to Scooby-Doo2, Monsters Unleashed.

  • The first time I heard the New Radicals ("You Get What You Give") I was sure that it was some new Hall & Oates
  • The soundtrack version of "You Get What You Give" is a radio edit. I guess it was OK to cast Sarah Michelle Gellar and Linda Cardellini in all of their maximum hotness...but not OK to say "We'll kick your a** in". Oh well, gotta protect the kiddies, I guess
  • Freddie Prinze Jr. is lookin' an awful lot like Beck. Seriously
  • The song "Boom Shack-a-lack" (by Apache Indians) is full of some serious fun
  • Even though "The Rockafeller Skank" doesn't appear in the movie, its appearance on this disc does me a great service as somebody swiped my Fatboy Slim CD a while back
  • Bad Manners turn in a not half-bad rendition of "Wooly Bully"
  • Ruben Studdard's "Shining Star" isn't bad either. It doesn't make me want to toss out my Earth, Wind & Fire records though
  • Another tune not appearing in the movie: Harvey Danger's "Flagpole Sitta". Do we call this "filler"? I guess I don't really care because it's a great song
  • "Play That Funky Music" is a great tune for doing James Brown immitations after you've had just a little too much to drink (plus, the funk guitar riff, as Ferris Bueller would say, is so choice)
  • "Bowling For Soup" is one of the coolest band names ever ("Here We Go" ain't a half bad song either)
  • I will get back to loving the B-52's "Love Shack" as soon as I can get that gawdawful image of the American Idol/Ford commercial out of my head
  • If you're in a bad mood, you need to listen to some Puffy Ami Yumi.

My CD is the "enhanced" version...which means that it attempts to launch a music video, screwing up my CD player software.

Hey, when are New Radicals gonna come out with a 2nd elpee, anyhoo?

This does sound like a fun soundtrack (though not as cool as the 'track to Josie and the Pussycats).
