Songs That Touch My Soul - Four

Part of: Songs That Touch My Soul

We all have them — songs that seem to touch a secret place deep in your soul — sometimes secret even from you. They can grow and occasionally fester in you like an open wound, or they can fill you up, inspire you, and occasionally even heal you.

Sometimes they don't even reflect your musical tastes. They can be shameful secrets that you keep from family and friends. You feel like a drug addict craving your next fix. At times like those you thank the powers that be for MP3 players — the syringe of those suffering with this affliction.

This is my fourth instalment of songs that touch my soul. This edition is full of the pain of lost love, the joy of new romance and, as always, passion, desire, and lust. This is a form of therapy, sharing with you my neuroticism, my secret inner lunacy. Welcome to my musical schizophrenia.

"Messiah" – MoZella

I worshipped him. Just like the song says. “I never thought that lovin’ you would hurt for so long. And I worshipped you, and I praised your name, and I lived for you like a Messiah.” But he didn’t see how special I was, he didn’t appreciate me the way — I finally realised — I deserved to be appreciated. We have all been through it. Now out the other side it seems so obvious, but when you’re there… you just don’t care, all you want is that person to love you, to adore you, to appreciate how special you really are deep down inside just like you appreciate all their special, quirky beauty.

"Strange and Beautiful" — Aqualung

A “friend” sent me this track. Hey, just because one guy didn’t appreciate how special and beautiful I am doesn’t mean they all won’t. I love this song. I love everything about this song. From the incredible head-turning lyrics — “I’ve been watching your world from afar… To me you’re strange and you’re beautiful. You’d be so perfect with me but you just can’t see, you turn every head but don’t see me” – to the hauntingly sexual synth feel music. Okay yes, maybe it is ever so slightly stalker-ish but sometimes a girl wants to know just how much you want her – not that I am condoning stalking in anyway.

"Taking Chances" – Platinum Weird

I'm a writer and music journalist originally from Salt Lake City, but now living in Scotland. I was a Punk/Goth in the '80s and these artistic influences have stayed with me; although a love of Chopin, chamber music, and Spanish guitar would seem to belie this. …

Wow... you went back a ways with the BNL choice. Next time you listen to Gordon, re-listen to "The Flag." I love the harmonies they work into that one. Kind of a dark song, but that's why I like it.

This is a really nice collection of tracks, Andrea. You always do such a nice job with these.

Agree with DJR, you must check out the Flag. I love the awesome, haunting Bass solo at the beginning, and it only gets better from there.

Thanks Connie! I appreciate the support and praise. I am going to have to track down the Flag and hear this.

You are spot on with the Chris Isaak tune. OMG - that one makes me break a sweat every time I hear it. Also, makes me want to hunt Mr. Isaak down and have my way with him. LOL

I know what you mean about that tune Elizabeth. But to be honest Isaak's voice alone makes me want to spend a few sweaty hours alone with him. Yummy...

I agree with you about Platinum Weirds beautiful song Taking Chances. I can't wait for the album to be released. For now we'll have to listen to the song on Platinum Weirds myspace site I suppose.
