Speaking of Metallica:
It's official! Jason Newsted is the new bassist with Ozzy Osbourne's band. The Voivod man will be joining the Prince Of Darkness for the upcoming Ozzfest tour.
Marty: Well no one ever accused Lars of being a wimp. It is good to see that some rock stars are not wussing out of flying as they did during the Gulf War and after 9/11. European fans of the band will be very pleased to see them keep to their dates this summer.
Amusingly enough Newsted is replacing Ozzy's bassist Robert Trujillo who is off to join Metallica. (Thanks to a reader for catching this gaff.)

Actually, Newstead was only a stand-in for Voivod. He really got his start with Flotsam and Jetsam which was released on Metal Blade. The guy who ran Metal Blade was busted several times for selling bootlegs and stealing record certification plaques from the PolyGram warehouse. But it's the record biz, you expect quality?

Actually Newsted is officially a member of Voivod. He is called Jasonic, well at least the band's press release for the latest album says he is full-time member.
Didn't know the Metal Blade story. I used to go visit them in NYC, they were always very cool. Got me into to see secret industry gig which was amazing. Knew that Metallica pinched him from perenial also-rans Flotsom though.
