The truth is, you probably won't. According to this Daily News article out of 30,000 records released in 2002, only 128 reached Gold record status (500,000 or more copies sold).
If you are one of the lucky 128, your album would gross about $8.5 million retail. I won't go into the full details here (read the article), but the hypothetical band ends up with a whopping $162,000 split 4 ways.
At least there's groupies :)
