Smokey Robinson, Willie Nelson Atlantic Box: New Album Releases, 6-20-2006

Part of: New CDs

Smokey Robinson has a new album of Timeless Love standards which sounds like the best blind pick for the week. Along with stuff like "Fly Me to the Moon," I'm pleased to see him take a swing at Cyndi Lauper's modern standard "Time After Time."

In groovy catalogue action, Rhino is putting Willie Nelson The Complete Atlantic Sessions, a three CD set covering his early 70s work. This would include the Phases and Stages album, Shotgun Willie, along with "Whiskey River" and "Stay All Night," which are among his top concert staples.

"Somewhere They Can't Find Me" never made a big impression on me, but Keane's last album was a pretty big hit. They're back with Under the Iron Sea.

Unreformed hawkish Hoosier hillbilly Al Barger runs the still squeezin' down the psychodelic Kentucky moonshine at More Things. What with the paranoid religious visions, the Pentecostal music, visions of God and anarchy running amok and such, somebody …
