Eddie Vedder sings like his life depends on it, but there's only so much anyone could do with such a totally indistinguished composition.
Pearl Jam is beating the (anti) war drums for a big new album release coming May 2 on J Records, after a long association with Epic. Here's the track listing:…

Anyone who thinks the white stripes are the greatest band in the world should not be taken seriously.

Albums out. heard it yet Al?
what do you have to say now?

Haven't heard the album. I was reviewing specifically the single, which leaves me utterly unmotivated to seek out the album.
Alternate new music suggestion: Springsteen has a real record. More to come.

Al would not like the album just like he did not like the single. His mind was already made up before he listened to it.
Read his other comments re: Pearl Jam and you will see this is quite clear.
Nothing wrong with this of course, I am guilty of doing the same thing with other artists as are many others... some just can't admit to it can they Al?

But Prawn, I'm not guilty of that kind of prejudice. I wrote this review based on actually listening repeatedly to the record. If it had been a good song, I'd have been glad to praise it.
For contrast, I've written considerably harsher stuff over the last several years about Bruce Springsteen than I've ever said about little Pearl Jam. I was ready to just flay him for this pinko Seeger album- and then I actually heard the record. Look on my Springsteen page for The Rising review- then the new Seeger album review. Again, give me a really good record, and I'll overlook a whole lot of political foolishness.

but you've heard one song from the album? which is a great song..why not just attempt to listen to any other song from the album, you'll see how wrong you are
I tip my hat to you prawn

I think critizing is easy, its just to make your own views critical. pj has still got the urge and the fire to make music...they enjoy what they do..if the fans do enjoy it thats cool....i've heard world wide suicide..its like..the old thumbing n aggression has returned to the band..they're turning back the clock & it seems they wanna stay there forever...thats what I like about them...they create music..it may sound good or bad, but as long as that creativity is in there..they're least bothered what others say........pj rocks man ....i dont care what others say about them...im true to them...

Pearl Jam rock. Full stop. Forget analysis, put the cds on kick back and rock.

I went to Madrid from Frankfurt only to see them. After 14 years they decided to visit Madrid and I could not miss it.
They are amazing. 16000 people. Most of spanish people does not talk english, so they must be good not only in lirics. And many people were singing the songs, that means to me that they are good enough to make us (as lazy as we are) learn at least their songs.
I don´t think that (right now) there is any other band as good as they are.

Al, I've got to be honest with you here. I'm not swayed by your opinion one bit. Not because I have a grudge against you, or dislike you for not being a fan of Pearl Jam.
But I am very-- dissuaded to appreciate your review with its vast typoes and lack of any real substantial evidence. When you critique something, you can't just say its bad. You also can't just state that something as widely popular as World Wide Suicide is entirely crap. You need to support your claim, especially against popular favor.
You need to talk about the song very in depth, if you're reviewing a single song specifically somewhere.
Now I'm not a huge Pearl Jam guy, but I appreciate their sound for what it is, and sometimes it means not having complicated progressions and changed up vocals to make a ton of rediculous sound.
The fact that the song is so simple, seems to have a lot more to do with the message behind it. Vedder can't afford to change up the pitch and tone when he's trying to get a clear and concise idea to people. I have yet to hear a good protest song with complicated vocals, because it really dilutes any form of power the song could have.
Overall, I totally disagree with your review. It was poorly executed, and there is a lack of convincing evidence. Unfortunately, you're not esteemed enough as a critic to be able to flatly say something about a song, and it be accepted.
Work on your delivery, and put some damn effort into reviewing your document before you post it next time. No one is perfect, but if you atleast show an effort, it will be better accepted.
