Debbie Gibson's crush unexpectedly returns her feelings one day in the giddy "Out of the Blue."
Cheerful synthesizers open the single, setting a dainty tone. She had always liked her crush. However, she didn't think he would notice her. But to her surprise, he asked her out on a date. Now, they've been dating for several months. She can't believe it was a sweet smile she gave him that got the ball rolling.
"Without you, without you/I always thought that everything was fine without you/Never knowing you'd be mine/Suddenly my world has changed/And I just wonder why/All it took was just one smile."
In the chorus, she says that she never would've thought she would be falling in love with him. It's how she imagined the relationship would be. He's her first love.

She's growing attached to him. She's finding she likes more about him than just the superficial things. He's become her best friend. It's as though she's found the meaning of life.

After the chorus, she exclaims that she's with him. A bright electric guitar solo follows.
