Simple Plan, The All American Rejects and Dashboard Confessional - Will These Bands Ever Grow Up? - Page 3

However, there are some bands that manage to grow out of this never ending adolescence, and actually evolve along with their audience. One of the clearest examples of this (to me, at least) is the band Green Day. They started out singing songs that were angst-y and filled with a general sense of anger and loneliness, but as they got older, they started singing about current societal issues, particularly political ones. The people who related to them as angst-ridden teenagers could also relate to them as adults questioning the morality of some American politicians. This ability to evolve along with their audience whilst maintaining a sense of catchy individuality has made Green Day one of the most enduring punk bands around.

So, the question remains, if bands like Green Day can manage to grow up and adjust their music to suit their age and audiences, why can’t bands like Simple Plan do the same? Do they enjoy writing song after song about not getting the girl? Or do they just lack the brainpower necessary to think about what sort of music people their own age might enjoy listening to? Or, is it possible that their record company signed them up on the proviso that they would create album after bestselling album marketed solely for teenagers filled with emotional turmoil?

Whatever the reason, I think I’d choose an office job over endless adolescence any day.

You can tell a lot about a band by the company it keeps. Simple Plan's close chums include Good Charlotte and Blink 182, giving one a fair hint of the sound the group's debut, though, judging by song ...

I understand your point of view and i even agree with it, but i have to say, do u ever listened to the last album of Simple Plan?!

Or even better, to the last two albums?!

In Crazy SP sings about the world in general with all the problems, just like green day... Save You is a song about cancer, Untitled is a song about drink and drive, What If, a great song about growing up and make some decissions... I dont think u ever heard this songs and are judging by the songs of the first album, no pads no helmets just balls, recorded in 1999/2000 when the members are 20 years old...

Of course we have some song for teenagers on the last album, but they have to do it cause this is the audience for them... But this is just because the older people dont even get the chance to sit down and listen to their songs.

I have 20 years and Simple Plan, for me, is the best band ever, not just because the lyrics, but they have passion for everything they do and u can see it clearly.

Im from Brazil and in march i wented to 5 concerts of Simple Plan in just 2 weeks... I traveled all the country for them and was the best days in my life, so yes i think even if u are not 16, u can see something good enought on Simple Plan to follow the band and keep listening to their songs...
