Simon Cowell on Bob Dylan: Boring - Comments Page 2

You’re not going to Hollywood. Next...

It’s somewhat ironic that Simon Cowell of American Idol... uh, notoriety, has stated that Bob Dylan’s music “bores him to tears.” Moreover, “…the Bob Dylans of this world would (not) make American Idol a better show.” Cowell went on to say he preferred Kelly Clarkson and that he had “never bought a Dylan record.”…

    Hey, Oh Mercy -

This, I did, bored driving on a long trip (about six hours or more through France) and I post this for you, since you may find it funny. A lot of what you say is true: nothing is really original and yes, Dylan took or borrowed (i think that's what he said in No Direction Home and made it his own, and that's exactly right and you put it well - thanks for saying what i was trying to say. God knows i've said it before, but obviously not well-enough here.)

Enough said; I never said this was good - but you may find it fun - It's

"Ode to BD, St. Maure, Southern Fr."

    There is no contradiction here.
St. Maure , Southern France "
just Another Side of Bob Dylan
We pass, up, down over lit
country hills under the red sky,

    only now just appearing "
    no hard rain, only sun…

    ‘in the jingle jangle morning
    I’ll come followin’ you…”
    It's now about 5:00 a.m.

So where am I then? No direction home.
    Desire? Where?
    So we drive; infidels
    me with ever-present camera,
    a black and white self-portrait.

    Here, gentle Europe,
no John Wesley Harding cowboys "
    These are hardly modern times,
    more time outta mind.

    No trains, no tracks,
no blood on the tracks "
    endless horizons of gold.

Yesterday when we argued, I said,
    “Good as I been to you…” "

a real French empire burlesque a deux "

    Well, at least here
    disagreement is accepted,
    almost expected "
    ...Street legal anyway.
Me? All I really want is shelter from the storm… Oh mercy!

There you go: bad poetry, but you can pick out the pieces that count... a pastime.

cheers, and as we sa, ta...

A stray thought here - doesn't add anything to the above dialogue - althoough he would never do it, what would Dylan be like as a judge on American Idol? Would he out-Simon Simon himself?

    (Junk) food for thought.

hard to say...i'm not sure where Simon is coming from, but he seems angry or annoyed. I dunno. Just my take. As to Dylan - sure, he gets pithy, pissy, all that... but... he says a lot but i like this:

"All I can do is be me, whoever that is.”

    but among my favorites,

Just because you like my stuff doesn't mean I owe you anything.”

I don't know. Maybe so. Maybe not. He sorta says it there. Maybe. He's like the Delphic Oracle sometimes... but often, very clear. I can't remember the source of this, but it was along the lines of

    "I'm not angry - i'm delightful."

Simon will say things like, "That's horrendous," or, "You might possibly be the worst we've heard today." But he's run out of descriptors. I think Dylan would come up with some real double talkin' jive - heck - just imagine if he only tossed off song titles or lines from his songs at contestants? Comments like,

"So now I guess everybody must get stoned."

"There's gotta be seven people dead on a South Dakota farm after that performance."

"Urg... you make me feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door."

    Well, I'D watch it.

    V.
