Have you ever heard a song that was quirky? Quirky to extreme measures where it makes you burst with musical joy inside? And after hearing that song, you must own it?
That is how I got suckered into "We Are Your Friends" by Simian. I was at Barnes and Noble. At the end cap where they have a listening station they had this cd set up. I innocently put on the headphones and listened to the first track. I was nailed to the floor. The musical creativity in that one song demanded that I buy the cd.
And being the poor kid I am, I followed the demand (and my checking account will kill me for it later). I eagerly got home and put the cd in, afraid that I would loose the feeling that the first song created. I sighed in relief when the song inspired the same awe-stricken... awe.
The rest of the cd is fairly solid, with the exception of the title track which is almost as good as the first song. The music Simian creates is electronic-influenced alternative brit rock, if I am forced to peg them with anything. They show thier oldies influences by singing "woo" and "ahhhh" and doing a lot of harmonizing between the multiple band members. The cd is quirky. But not quite to the extent that the first track is.
If you are a fan of electronic influenced rock or like the oldies ability to harmonize well in a modern setting, give these guys a whirl.
peace.

I swear, they dust the headphones at Barnes & Noble and Borders with some sort of audio angel dust or something. It's rare I walk into one and don't hear something I absolutely need. I have noticed, however, that a lot of things sound better in the store than anywhere else, and are often a tremendous letdown in general. It must be all the coffee fumes in the air . . .
