Sarah Borges & the Broken Singles "Daniel Lee"

Part of: Sun Studio Sessions

Most musicians do not like to be pigeonholed into one narrow genre. The irony not lost on me, I must say that Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles certainly fall into that category. The band clearly has rock, soul, and country influences that Sarah and band weave into their own musical tapestry. Led by Borges' stellar voice and million dollar smile, the band is full of top notch musicians that skillfully handle whatever direction their leader takes them in. The Broken Singles are: Mike Castellana (guitar), Binky (bass) and Robert Dulaney (drums).

To date, the band has released two critically acclaimed records: Silver City and Diamonds in the Dark. Both records were produced by Paul Kolderie (Radiohead, Pixies, Uncle Tupelo) and each landed on more than one top 10 list in their respective release years. Diamonds is the first with Sugar Hill Records.  The band's prowess, however, is not limited to the recording studio.

Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles put on a stellar live show. The Boston based group have criss-crossed the country the last couple of years, also to rave reviews.  But, like their music, their live show crosses significant boundaries. Beyond the States, the band does very well in Europe and are set to hit Germany and the UK for a two week stint in May, including a stop at the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool that helped give the Beatles their start.

After a big week at SXSW this year, the Broken Singles stopped into Sun Studio for a terrific set.  Here is the video for "Daniel Lee" - enjoy.
