Robbie upset he isn't touring with Queen

CMU reports that Robbie is having a hissy fit over the fact he was not asked to front Queen.

...Concert.com quotes Robbie as saying: "I'd have killed for a chance to sing with those guys backing me. How cool would that have been? I sang We are the Champions for a movie soundtrack and the band said I did a good job."

But Queen bassist John Deacon is quoted as responding: "I don't want to be nasty, but Robbie is no Freddie Mercury. Freddie can never be replaced - and certainly not by him."

Let's face it; Paul Rodgers is of the same era as Queen and has a much better voice than Williams. The whole point is that Rodgers is not replacing Freddie, he is just touring with Queen and singing their songs while they back him on his songs.

I wrote about this farce of a tour when news first surfaced. I think you make a good distinction... Paul Rodgers isn't joining Queen, he is simply joining a Queen tribute band (backed by 3 guys who know those songs pretty well).

I still think this idea stinks, no matter who is singing.

I think the idea rocks. Who is being betrayed here? No one. They aren't saying they are the new Queen, which would be a betrayal. They aren't Great Pretending anything. They want to go out on the road again and they want another good voice in front of them.

    Rodgers has a great voice.

So what you (DJRadiohead) are saying is you have completely missed the press release and the point of this tour. Rodgers is not fronting Queen, he is merely touring with blokes from Queen who are backing him on his tunes and he is singing on their songs. Not the same thing as fronting Queen...

No onw will replace Freddie he was Queen, he was the entertainer and a great showman, Sure Paul Rodgers has a good voice but he sure hasn't got the Charisma!!!!

i can understand this to an extent, robbie is a big name, he sold out knebworth on his own....

its not so much that he lacks the ability to pull of the songs - its just that people who saw him would come thinking they were seeing robbie williams - and not that they were seeing queen.

you guys are a bunch of pussies, shut the fuck up. Paul Rodgers, overall, is a better singer than Freddy Mercury. Nobody is Freddy but Freddy, but come on. Paul Rodgers has his voice, which is fucking incredible as is, but he can also emulate Freddy to an extent which is better than anyone else. Paul rules, Freddy Rules, but Paul is god.

Yeah, but he can't break free, or show how good he is under pressure. He's just another fat-bottomed girl on his bicycle, playing jazz, really - not a Killer Queen like Freddie
