RéMe Mix 35

This month's submission for the Crabwalk.com mix of the month.

  1. Bob Carlisle "Butterfly Kisses" - Ashley's and my song. We danced to this one at my wedding. It is VERY special to us and we listen to and enjoy it together all the time. This song is for any Dad with a little girl. If you would like a small glimpse at how special this song is to me, read this story.
  2. Vanilla Ice "Ice, Ice Baby ('98 Remix)" - An industrial remake of that cheezy rap song. I first heard this when I saw a VH1 "Where They Are Now" or "Behind The Music" one night when I was on vacation. I was intrigued by the industrialized version and got my hands on the disc. To say this is the high point wouldn't be doing justice to the truth. This is the only listenable track on the CD.
  3. Souls At Zero "Welcome To the '90's" - I remember when this band was called Wrathchild America and they played straight ahead thrash metal. They jumped on that ship too late to really capitalize, though and it went back underground. At some point, they changed their name, but not thier sound. This is no-frills 80's style thrash metal. I love the lyrics to this song and the singer is great. Not too "singy" and not crappy chanting or death growls. It feels like the vibe Metallica had "back in the day."
  4. Sister Machine Gun "Better Than Me" - S.M.G. is one of my favorite bands right now. I've gotten my hands on a few of their CD's, with plans to get every one as soon as I can. This is heavy industrial done right. This is a great song, wether you're driving, dancing or just hanging out. Awesome.
  5. Scarface (featuring Dr. Dre, Ice Cube & Too Short) "Game Over" - I love it when a variety of rappers jump in on one song. That's one of the reasons I still listen to N.W.A. This is a pretty cool song, mixing a variety of styles. I like it quite a bit.
  6. Demons & Wizards "Blood On My Hands" - I downloaded every song I could find from D&W, when I first found out about them, listened to the first two and went out and bought the CD. I think it's better than anything Iced Earth or Blind Guardian put out at the same time. Super-heavy guitar, great vocals and a straight rythm to hold it all together. This is a very good song. Hansi nails the vocal, too.
  7. DJ Terrorist "ATJ" - I found a song somewhere called "WWF vs. WCW megamix," attributed to DJ Terrorist. I went out on the net looking for more stuff and found a few songs. After the first one, I realized that either there were two dj's with the same name or the first one had been misattributed. This is just a totally different style and much more original work. Nice DJ song with some neat effects mixed in. Good song.
  8. The Ataris "Make It Last" - I'm not too sure why I had this song. I've tried really hard to like this band, but there's still only about two songs I like, then they all sound the same and annoy the hell out of me. This is one of the two songs, though. I'm not sure why, since it sounds like every other power-pop song I've heard, but it's got a certain groove to it.
  9. Dangerous Toys "Demon Bell" - From the "Shocker" (the remake, back in the late 80's) soundtrack. That soundtrack is LOADED with good tunes, even if most of them have more cheese than a block of Velveeta. I had the tape, when it was released, then it got stolen from me and I had a bitch of a time getting it again. I finally found the tape shortly after I downloaded this one. I love this tune, it's got a simple riff and a great vocal, but it has a whole lot of groove to it.
  10. MC Hammer "U Can't Touch This" - I NEVER would have admitted to liking this song when it was a radio hit, but I did. My sister used to play this over and over. It's got a very catchy feel to it and let's face it, noone can dance like Hammer... noone.
  11. Kid n' Play "Last Night" - Speaking of cheese. These guys are so loaded with it that Kraft keeps trying to package them. Pre-packaged pop-rap. Somewhere, I have the song "The Battle (Kid vs. Play)," which is a super good battle-rap. After that, I downloaded a bunch more and realized that I already had the best song they've done.
  12. Barenaked Ladies "One Week" - Another radio smash hit with an irresistable groove. I'm not big on these guys, but this one song is just killer.
  13. DragonForce "Revelations" - I found this band on Mp3.com, when they were called DragonHeart. I downloaded their entire demo and was totally blown away. It's like Dream Theater meets (old)Metallica. A name change, numerous personnel changes and a delayed debut album later and I'm still eagerly anticipating their first CD. It will supposedly be out February 25th, from Noise Records.
  14. GodSmack "Now Or Never" - Not a big fan of this band overall, but this is a good song. Heavy and grinding, just the way I like it. The subtle touches of electronics are nice, too.
  15. Reba McEntire "Fancy" - Classic country song. I absolutely love the vibe, feel and lyrics to this song. This is up there in my top 15 or 20 favorite songs.
  16. Vanilla Ice "Ice, Ice Baby" - LOADED with cheese, stolen from Queen and still manages to be a pretty cool song. My sister had the tape and I listened to it once. This is the only song I could listen to more than once, in truth. I had to include it here, due to the '98 remix being here.
  17. Goldfinger, Mest & Good Charlotte "The Innocent" - This song was recorded shortly after September 11th, as a tribute and released on Mp3.com. My brother-in-law and I were having a discussion about tribute songs and I said that there weren't enough heavy ones. He played this for me, I had to have it. Great lyrics, great song and HEAVY.
  18. Kiss "You Wanted The Best" - I was as excited as the next guy when Kiss got back together. I desperately wanted to see the original lineup live and I was anticipating a new album. The live show rocked, the album didn't. I couldn't stand Psycho Circus, other than this song. This is the one good song from a less-than-lukewarm album.
  19. Robin Trower "My Way" - Decent blues tune but still not as good as "Twentieth Century Blues," my all-time favorite Robin Trower song.
