Rick Ocasek - Record Executive

There was a pretty interesting article in yesterday's Boston Globe about Rick Ocasek signing on as senior vice president of A&R at Elektra Records.

After a wildly successful run as a recording artist and a quarter-century as an A-list album producer — he's helmed projects for Hole, No Doubt, Weezer, and Iggy Pop, among many others — Ocasek is going where few musicians have dared venture: the executive branch. In April, Ocasek, 54, was named senior vice president of A&R (Artists and Repertoire) at Elektra Records. Technically his job is to scout and sign new bands. But Elektra is investing in more than a fresh pair of ears.

Could this be the beginning of the return to the days when music lovers had input to the creative process?

We'll see.

I'm looking for an album featuring, among others, Rick Ocasek, Janis Ian, Barrett Strong, and Glen Campbell, singing, live, the songs that made them famous or just popular. This was a kind of informal, live session recording that I bought on cassette at a Texas truckstop back in 2000, then lost a year later. Has anyone heard of this album, and can they help me find a new copy? Thanks.

Martin, I fear that was a bootleg you are likely only to find again at another truckstop.

me too! isn't it funny how they got Todd Rundgren, who with his aging face sort looks like Ocasek if you squint real hard.

Is he still married to that babe Paulina?? What a score that was fo him. But for her too I guess, one of the most taleted musicians ever, in my opinion.
