Nirvana's recently bootleg-released song starts out with the gentle sound of strings strumming. A gentleness that sets the tone for this highly manic-depressive song. The song is played out with gorgeous grunge grooves from Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic, and it seems to let us in on how Kobain felt not long before his death.
Cobain shared his feelings with these tremblingly sad and saracstic lyrics, "Whistle and I'll come outside I no longer have to hide/ Let's talk about someone else she justs want to love herself/ She just moves away from here she just wants to love herself/ And I wont move away from here you wont be afraid of fear/ I am walking in the piss always knew it'd come to this/ I have never felt so well things have never been so well," then Cobain elevates his voice as he screams, "Pain" in a long-drawn-out wail, accompanied by seething, classic, grunge guitar rifts. You know you're right is truly Cobain at his finest and it's a wonderful reminder of his contributions to modern rock music.
You know you're right is filled with the sultry sounds that made me originally fall in love with Nirvana as a youngster, and I'm not surprised that it's already re-created the love affair for many fans across the globe. You can expect true Nirvana fans to purchase the Nirvana greatest hits package, which includes You know you're right and is expected to be in stores Nov. 19.
The "accidental" release of You know you're right may actually be a form of what we PR and marketing people call "viral marketing" in disguise, which typically is used to create or re-create a legend or myth in order to generate interest in a person or a product. That's how The Blair Witch Project became so popular so quickly. I don't mind, though, because I was able to listen to the free single for Nirvana's upcoming greatest hits package. It's not often that record companies put out singles for greatest hits packages, but this song's so hot, that it may be something they'll consider in the future, especially if the track really was leaked "accidentally."
You can get background on the bootleg track at Launch or MTV.com.

Kurt Cobain was an absolute genius, and in this song its clearly evident of the ingenius thoughts zooming around in his adorable head. The "accidental" release was just another hook for up-and-coming Nirvana fanatics.
