REVIEW: The Killers' album Hot Fuss

The Killers are a relatively new rock group, coming on to the scene within the last few months. Their debut album, titled "Hot Fuss", includes 11 tracks with a total playing time of 46:32 - good to see a decently timed album (of course its not the possible 80 minutes, but hey).

You have undoubtedly heard the first single from the album, "Somebody Told Me". You know, the one someone told him that you had a boyfriend that looked like a girlfriend that he had in February of last year? Yep, I knew you had heard it.

The other tracks on the album all have the same kind of sound, if not the same catchy lyrics. The first time I listened to the album I was less than impressed, I felt very much that the first single was really the only hit off the album. After listening to it a few more times, I guess you could say I am not entirely convinced anymore. There are some really great songs, like "Smile Like You Mean It" and "Indie Rock and Roll".

For the most part however, I think most people will just like the first single and ignore the rest. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think comparatively there are much better rock albums out there right now. I will say however, that the band's sound is definitely unique, and so it can be refreshing to listen to something different once in a while.

This CD is great! Maybe precisely for the reason you stated at the end, that it's fresh, comparatively.
Nonetheless, it's upbeat, fun, stupid pop-rock that I can't get out of CD player.

I've got soul but I'm not a soldier might be one of my least favorite lyrics ever.

That dude is a nipple. My best friend loves these guys- I just can't get there.

I'm not really a big fan of this band, but I LOVE "Mr. Brightside," possibly my favorite single of the last year and a half or so.

There's also a great dance remix of the song, which you can hear an audio sample of below:

The Killers, "Mr. Brightside (Jacques Lu Cont "Thin White Duke" Remix)"

    That is all.

i love the album...they have a real 80's kinda feel and sound that's reminiscent of depeche mode, the smiths, and even a bit of new order...all purposely of course, the Killers are admittedly influenced by that type of music.

i admit i didn't care for the entire cd at first, but it grew on my and is now among my favorites.

    Favorite Tracks:

    Somebody Told Me
Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine
    Smile Like You Mean It
    On Top
    Midnight Show
    Change Your Mind
    Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll

    Least Favorite:

    Everything Will Be Alright

Out of everything that Brandon Flowers could have produced, why that one? Does nothing for me, and it sounds depressing and dull.

    Love the album, though.

    8.5/10
