"All I Want"
The Offspring

Day after day your home life's a wreck
The powers that be just
Breathe down your neck
You get no respect
You get no relief
You gotta speak up
And yell out your piece
So back off your rules
Back off your jive
Cause I'm sick of not living
To stay alive
Leave me alone
I'm not asking a lot
I just don't want to be controlled
That's all I want...

The Warped Tour '05 rolled into the Big Apple in a huge cloud of dust that never settled for the entire day on Saturday. The dirt on Randalls island, where the show was held, was powder fine and dry as a bone. There was a moderate breeze blowing almost continuously which did help make the hundred degree heat bearable but which also kicked up the dust and deposited a fine layer of it on and in everything including thousands of sweaty concert goers. By the end of the day it looked like a massive mud wrestling event had taken place.

I got to the show a little late (4pm) in the day as I had made a VERY necessary trip to the dentist first. I did get to see The Offspring though which had been my primary goal in attending. I also saw My Chemical Romance and about ten other bands on the various stages that were scattered around the festival grounds.

The Offspring ROCKED. They sounded great and it didn't take long for their lead singer Dexter Holland to get the audience whipped into an arm waving, moshing frenzy. At one point in the show he threatened to whip out his "hose" and squirt down the audience to cool them off..... Then he did. His hose was a fire hose that had been put to one side of the stage and believe me, the spray from the hose felt damn good to those of us in the audience as he sprayed us down.

For me though the most memorable event of the day was "finding" a band called Opiate For The Masses tucked away on one of the many sub-stages. After watching them perform live I just had to hear their new CD. I got a copy at the concert and have been listening to it ever since.
