Blue October put on a great show. The sunset sure didn’t hurt their performance either. A crowd of young and old alike, Blue October apparently appeals to a range of folks—most of whom were on their feet and singing along. A Texas band from Houston and now residing outside of Austin in San Marcos, they seemed to be quite a hit. Dancing all about, arms waving in the air, Blue October saw the energy of the crowd and fed off of it. They even played some songs from their new album, Foiled, due out in early 2006. Judging from the reaction of everyone around me, I would say they got some positive feedback for sure.
In the midst of the sea of bodies crowded around, the temperature was quite nice with the winds from Hurricane Rita blowing in. And if the sunset or the rocks in the background weren’t enough, even the wind seemed to compliment Blue October’s set. During their heavier or more fast-paced songs, the wind picked up.
The wind seemed very light or still during the slower songs, as if it picked up on the energy of the music and were responding directly to it. The Blue October performance was definitely one that appealed to more than simply seeing and hearing good music.
As I was leaving, I was able to catch part of Lyle Lovett’s performance as well. A local favorite, Lyle had a huge audience gathered about the Cingular stage. I am definitely looking forward to what the second day of ACL has to offer. So far it isn’t disappointing on any level—from the music to the selection of food and beverages (including my personal favorite Sweet Leaf’s Mint and Honey Green Tea) to the various other activities provided.

It's a shame I am nowhere near Austin, or Texas for that matter. Sounds like a great music festival going on.
