Rather Be Rockin - Tantrum-Breaking Away
Tantrum
(Escape Music)
Tantrum is a 1970s pop rock group I have never heard of and three albums to boot? Recipe for disaster probably. But not in this case. Imagine a combo of Heart at their mellowest, Fleetwood Mac with a healthy dose of Chicago & the Doobies thrown in good measure. A Producer from Styx is along for the ride as well.
Quite often this lot sound like the under-rated Mother Station. Much of the music here uses all three female lead singers. It's catchy-as-stink pop rock that despite your best intentions grabs your attention. With titles like "Happy Yesterdays" and "You are the World" you won't be surprised. Listening to this lot was far from an unpleasant experience despite the fact it's a bit flufflier than my usual taste. The 2-CD set is well put together with an excellent set of liners notes.
The third album in this collection has never officially been released before now and it is not half bad. Goofy happy, and at times cheesy, care-free music has its place now doesn't it?

I saw Tantrum open up for Wet Willie at the Rivera Theater in Chicago in 1976 ..and THEY ROCKED. Best Bass solo I`ve ever heard and I`ve seen 2000 bands in concert(pro and amateur). The ladies were great and the band was KIK-ASS. Rather Be Rockin` LP is a bit tame compared to seeing them Live. Wish I could turn back time for one night and turn the whole wporld on to that show...... by the way Which one is Willie ??? !!!
