Really Really Good: The Link Specialist - Page 2

Part of: Really, Really Good

I hit up U.U. for the Fourth, to catch a few Hip-Hop giants for Independence Day. POW Shadowz, DJ Lord Ron, and DJ Leviathan held down the spot as usual, as the night was capped with performances by Copywrite and Sadat X. J Rawls was in the house, holding it down on the turntables for both acts as well! Copywrite ripped it and had his local fans in the place going wild, as he flipped some of his new material. The headlining act was none other than Sadat X of Brand Nubian fame. The Wild Cowboy did his thing and brought New York vibes to Cali! His unmistakable voice still rings clear, and hearing him rock some of his classic verses live was a great way to spend the holiday!

In between hitting us in the head with rap classics “Slow Down”, “Punks Jump Up”, “One For All”, and “1999”, X would flip into acapella verses and quick freestyle jabs, detailing his introduction to the world of rap, working with Brand Nubian, and his personal life. Oh, and when he went into "Steal Your Ho”, I almost lost it! The super raunchy, braggadocios B-Boy song was on repeat in my car for about 2 months when the album first hit the streets so long ago. I had almost forgotten it, but as soon as the song’s first drum roll hit, so did my Hip-Hop flashback moment!

His set was a bit short, but with all of the memorable songs and guest appearances he has, he packed in a load of songs, all chopped into little bits. As if he knew that some of the audience might feel like they were cheated, he announced that Brand Nubian will be onstage at Crash Mansion very soon, and invited us all to that. I’ll be there fa sho!
