The collaboration between Nataly Dawn and Jack Conte, Pomplamoose, just posted a video for a new track, 'River Shiver,' as well as their remaining tour dates. This is exciting stuff--hopefully they are revving up for a further incursion into the U.S. heartland (i.e. Columbus, OH).
The track itself sounds like it would go well with a Jolly Pumpkin Farmhouse Ale and an over-sized praline vanilla ice cream sundae. I'm getting the vibe that they are a cross between The Blow and Toothpaste for Dinner (seriously, Natalie Dawn v. Natalie DEE? Yes, Jack's not Drew, but I think it's because Jack hasn't spent as much time in Ohio).
It's good to delve past that though. If you keep flicking through the related videos on Nataly's YouTube channel, you'll get further past the Angry Birds theme song and into the covers of "Mrs. Robinson" and, more interestingly, the "Ain't No Sunshine" (Bill Withers) cover. She posted a good version, and it makes the idea of seeing them live all the more interesting.
Overall Pomplamoose sounds like a take-away of some Married to the Sea tossed in a salad bowl with a bit of singer-songwriter and deep-fried in indie-pop. Guess the Ohioans will have to wait, but everyone on the East Coast should take advantage of these upcoming shows and watch their site for future gigs.
