Last week, the Village Voice published their annual Pazz & Jop music critics poll. Since I'm awful at ranking and reifying and didn't submit a blogcritics music ballot, I'm providing this as partial penence.
I do like looking at other people's lists and the most fascinating part of the poll is looking at the ballots of 650 individual critics. I looked at Cyndi Elliot's list (also from 2000 and 2001) who I've been friends with since high school and others I know like Maura Johnston.
There is also a list from Ira Robbins who was interviewed here on blogcritics.
It is also fascinating going through the entire list of over 1600 albums which were named by the critics. I like the two in the top ten I have including Sleater-Kinney's One Beat and top ranked Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco.
Musician Franklin Bruno (who writes for LA Weekly and other places) has a list and his excellent album Cat May Look at a Queen as well as Tempting: Jenny Toomey Sings the Songs of Franklin Bruno are on other critics' lists.
