Except perhaps for Alek Syntek, there's hardly any serious Spanish-speaking competition in this side of the planet for Colombia's very own Juanes. Therefore, practically, only Juanes can beat himself. In spite of the praise for Mi Sangre and its inarguable sonic qualities, his third album falls a bit short behind his first two efforts. He just set the bar too high for himself.
Mi Sangre offers a blend of contagious styles that will catch the unaware humming a tune or accidentally tapping your feet. And if Spanish is your language, you'll find the album also to be amusing on a certain level, with a type of humor that Carlos Vives had us a bit more used to. Those familiar with Colombian people know this blend of humor lies at the heart of this great people, so Juanes and Vives simply do a great job at putting music to it.
In sum, though Mi Sangre can move those who don't respond to practically anything. Juanes still needs to work to top his second album, Un Dia Normal, as well as his first.
