NRBQ - One In A Million

This DVD is both an excellent introduction for those who don't know one of America's finest live bands, NRBQ, but also a snapshot for fans of the group at their prime.

Packaged by Creem, America's best rock magazine (which exists in trademark format only now), this DVD is a high quality filmed selection of nine songs recorded live in Montreal (I suspect at Le Spectrum de Montreal, but aren't sure) in 1989. While NRBQ have an extensive discography over 3 decades, the quartet really built their reputation on their live show.

This show is the classic lineup of the quartet, Terry Adams, Joey Spampinato, the late "Big Al" Anderson and Tom Ardolino presenting their apparently haphazard, casual and irresistible mix of rock, roll, rhythm and blues. The best part of seeing the band perform instead of listening to their albums is how easy and accidental this quartet can make one hell of a tight, rockin' show.

The disc includes:

I Got A Rocket In My Pocket
Girl Scout Cookies
It's A Wild Weekend
Little Floater
You're So Beautiful
12 Bar Blues
Crazy Like A Fox
Here Comes Terry
Shake, Rattle & Roll

Plus a video of "Dummy" from their most recent album.

The insert booklet includes a comprehensive essay from Creem writer Dave DiMartino.

If you are looking to pick up one NRBQ title, then this is "One In A Million".

If that comes with an RC Cola And a Moon Pie, I am there.

SO many of the best bands fade away unnoticed, it is good to see NRBQ is getting some attention.

I think they are not getting any attention, and that's a huge shame. There are few places I'd rather be than at an NRBQ show. They are hilarious and talented and real. And contrary to popular opnion, they've also made some pretty good rcords over the years. "At Yankee Stadium" and "kick Me Hard" from the mid-70's are probably the best, while some of them are pretty humdrum.
Do yourslf a favor and see them live.

agreed. NRBQ is one of those sort of unknown american treasures.

    soooo many great songs:

RC Cola & A Moon Pie
    Me And The Boys
I Love Her, She Loves Me

    and oh yea...the live shows!

plus, how can you not like a band who names a record "Tapdancin' Bats"?
