In the annals of rock history, rarely has anything been seriously written about the Australian rock band AC/DC. Despite being the second biggest selling music act of all time — second only to the Beatles — the band has been mostly neglected by mainstream media during their 35 year history. The band has already sold more than 200 million records worldwide and their recent release, Black Ice, went to Number One in 29 countries.
What is even more astounding is that after all of these accomplishments, the band still soldiers on without much ado, and is currently on tour in support of Black Ice.
Now, in the new book Why AC/DC Matters, released through William Morrow (an imprint of HarperCollins), author Anthony Bozza — a former Rolling Stone staff writer and New York Times bestselling author — examines why AC/DC has been undervalued and unappreciated by mainstream rock music critics, despite selling more records in the U.S. than such highly regarded artists as Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, and the Rolling Stones.
Whatever your opinion on this rock band is, it is about time that something is written about them. While this is not a definitive biography of the band, nor an in-depth look at the personal lives of the band members, author Bozza examines why this band cuts through all barriers despite receiving relatively little positive press.
Author Anthony Bozza headed Rolling Stone's "Random Notes" column for two years. He has also wrote or co-wrote several best-selling books including Whatever You Say I Am: The Life and Times of Eminem, comedian Artie Lange’s Too Fat to Fish, Tommyland (the autobiography of Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee), and Slash, the autobiography of Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver’s legendary guitarist.
It is this kind of experience that allows Bozza to have a unique perspective on the band. Rockers Tommy Lee and Slash, producer Rick Rubin, and professors of voice and guitar from the Berklee School of Music all give their commentary on the band as well. For music fans, this looks like a special treat.
