New album releases, week of 8-24-2004

Part of: New CDs

Yee-haw, but we've got some stuff worth getting excited about this week in the new album releases.

For starters, Junior Brown definitely rates the pick of the week with Down Home Chrome. I haven't heard anything less than an excellent album from Junior ever, and I think I have them all. He's the baddest guitar player walking the planet today (give or take Richard Thompson), and about the only contemporary country artist worthy of the legacy of his forebears. Also, titles like "Hill Country Hot Rod Man" sound quite promising to me. He also does a cover of "Foxy Lady" which should be most interesting.

The Finn brothers have a new album out this week as well, Everyone Is Here. Note that this is the guy who wrote "Don't Dream It's Over." That alone makes all future work worth a listen.

Steve Earle rouses the rabble with The Revolution Starts Now. Granted, Earle's a bit on the pinko side, but he's about one songwriting SOB. Plus, this album features a love song for Condi Rice. Note that this album is already ranked as the #9 seller at Amazon.

R Kelly has a new 2 CD set, Happy People / U Saved Me. He's never really done it for me, but he definitely has some skills, and the set up of this looks interesting. Disc one appears to be basic r&b bedroom ballads and such, typical R Kelly material. Disc two is gospel, with titles like "Prayer Changes" and "Leap of Faith."

Boyz II Men have a new album, Throwback.

Also, Tim McGraw has a new album, Live Like You Were Dying.
