New album releases, week of 3-1-2005

Part of: New CDs

Solomon Burke has a new album out this week - Make Due With What You've Got - which should rate a listen. Don Was produced it, and it includes new songs by Dr John and Van Morrison. After the outstanding 2002 Don't Give Up On Me album, this sounds quite promising.

Even more exciting, if you're into celebrityness rather than actual music: Jennifer Lopez has a new album out, Rebirth. Doubtless she will leave her husband for Brad Pitt, check into rehab, or make a porno video with Madonna - resulting in multiplatinum sales. Just cut to the chase and buy the damned album now.

Elvis Costello fans can now have the privilege of buying last year's album of the year The Delivery Man all over again in the deluxe edition with a couple of new outtakes and a video for "Bedlam."

Unreformed hawkish Hoosier hillbilly Al Barger runs the still squeezin' down the psychodelic Kentucky moonshine at More Things. What with the paranoid religious visions, the Pentecostal music, visions of God and anarchy running amok and such, somebody …

You missed a few Blue Note reissues:

Sonny Clark Dial S For Sonny
Herbie Hancock Speak Like a Child
Horace Silver Horace Silver & The Jazz Messengers

That Horace Silver is one of the better examples of fifties hard bop/soul jazz.
