Soundtracks come and go, on a rare occasion one will make a lasting impression upon me. IMAX NASCAR 3D-Original Motion Picture Soundtrack was the exception to the rule for me. I am not a self-professed NASCAR fan but I respect the sport and the drivers. It must be incredibly difficult to circle around those tracks for hours at a time at speeds over 200 mph. The danger alone in the sport must be the ultimate adrenaline rush. I think all of those factors come to light in a convincing fashion on this soundtrack. Probably most importantly is the fact that it is the #1 spectator sport in the southern states and some of the music is a reflection of that culture. It does a have southern rock flavor and atmosphere about it, yet the mixture of modern rock and pop also have their moments.
POD kicks it off with their raucous rock-rap track “Boom,” it definitely sets the tone and energy level for your listening experience, and most certainly it would for the movie. What NASCAR soundtrack would be complete without Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” and a nod to the legendary “Steve McQueen,” from pop icon Sheryl Crow? Country star Leanne Rimes gives you a chill with her rendition of “Star Spangled Banner,” it would move anyone with an ounce of red, white and blue in his or her veins. Wes Cunningham does a nice job with the ZZ Top classic “La Grange.” It has a cool rockin’ feel with the edginess of the big race all around it. I loved “Counting The Days” by Collective Soul, its a real in your face melodic rocker. They have to be one of the most overlooked rock bands in recent history.
