My love for Whiskeytown

Have I told ya'll how much I love Whiskeytown? I was introduced to them pretty early, by a friend who was a big fan of Uncle Tupelo and gave me their first CD right after their second came out. I wasn't impressed, I was anti-country at the time. Then I saw them live, at the Sleazefest, and they were awesome. I'm sure I've recounted it here before, but what-the-fuck. They finished their last song and Ryan Adams fell on his back and started pounding out chords. Everyone else shrugged, plugged back in, and started playing along. It was the Stooges' classic, "I Wanna be Your Dog", and it was incredible.

I like Adams' solo stuff, too, but I agree with Zomby that it sounds a lot like seventies Elton John.

Oh yeah, the original point of this post: I'm listening to MP3s and put "Drank Like a River" in the lineup. A classic country song, all about a man who drinks too much the day his daughter gets married because (I think) he's scared about losing her. Here's my playlist:

Lloyd Cole: She's a Girl and I'm a Man
Beth Orton: Stolen Car
McLusky: Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues
Sleater-Kinney: Step Aside
Whiskeytown: Drank Like a River
Sleater-Kinney: Start Together
Ken Layne: Worried
Archers of Loaf: Plumb Line
Aimee Mann: Wise Up
The Specials: Doesn't Make it Alright
