The country girl couldn't take down Madonna, but it looks like she may be taking down Kelly Clarkson very soon. The original American Idol's debut album stalled at 2.5 million in the U.S., and her subsequent singles after Miss Independent failed to make an indention on radio. Of course, now she's a mega-success with the explosion that was her sophomore album Breakaway, but it looks like Carrie Underwood's first album Some Hearts has not only surpassed Clarkson's first effort, but could be approaching the status of her second.
Carrie just released her highly anticipated third video off this album for the killer single "Before He Cheats," and the fans are buzzing — this shit is off the chain. You can hear the sass and growl in Underwood's voice as she quite frankly tells her man off for cheating on her, especially with some "bleach blonde tramp" singing a "white trash version of Shania karaoke." She bashes a nice, shiny red car up like it's Simon Cowell's face and attitude oozes from the screen as she makes a sassy little walk down the street holding a Louisville Slugger.
Even from just hearing the song, you know Carrie's not playing. In a deep, sexy but gritty dull roar she sings "Right now, he's probably buying her some fruity little drink 'cause she can't shoot whiskey. Right now, he's probably up behind her with a pool stick showin' her how to shoot a combo. But he don't know, I dug my key into the side of his pretty little suped up four wheel drive. Carved my name into his leather seats. Took a Louisville Slugger to both headlights. Slashed a hole in all four tires. Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats."
Well damn. I would think too after hearing that. After beating the daylights out of the car, Carrie throws down her bat and starts strutting towards her man who is in no way hiding his cheap love affair with Ms. Peroxide. "Right now, she's probably sayin' 'I'm drunk', and he's a thinking that he's gonna get lucky." Carrie says while she pulls off her jacket and starts scouring the crowd like an angry lioness on the hunt, throwing people left and right in search of the cheater and the other woman, who are distastefully making out up against a brick wall while he caresses her torn up, too short jean skirt.

I like Carrie but I hate country music. I'm happy for her success though. Chris, don't count Kelly out. She previewed new material on her recently wrapped Addicted Tour and I've a feeling her junior effort might out do her sophmore effort.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Also, American Idol has learned alot since Kelly's first win.
First, they didn't promote Kelly's CD as well as they should. The first day it was on sale, I went to the store, and they did nothing unusual for it, even though it was big news. They also made her first single a "Limited Edition", so many couldn't buy it. Then, they failed to release the best songs from the CD, like " Just Missed the Train"
Kelly also didn't have to pander to the Religious right to have a hit like Underwood did.
She's OK, but she's nowhere near the talent that Kelly is. Country fans buy the blonde of the moment, then they fall out of favor. Tanya Tucker, Leanne Rhimes, they've all been there.

ur right about carrie underwood being a huge success, but kelly clarkson and carrie are different artists. carrie underwood was highly publicized and she is the first country artist to win or even be recognized in american idol. kelly clarkson is in a different genre and is taking her career into her own hands. as well, kelly's sophomore album breakaway has sold over 10 million worldwide. so really, there's not much of a comparison. theyre just too different. but yes, they are both very successful.

1st off I like both Kelly and Carrie. Carrie’s debut album is out selling Kelly’s 2nd album during the 1st 42 week period by about 300k. Carrie has a lot going for her and Kelly will continue to be successful. Personally I think the writing is on the wall already, Carrie is setting a new benchmark for Future Idols. In regards to this video, WOW, Smoking hot! and you described it very nicely. I'm very impressed with Carries ability to sell story. She has all the right facial expressions, looks like she's been doing this for years. I love the part at the end when she's walking down the street and all the sparks are flying, windows breaking!. This is by far the best video to come from an American Idol to date. Nice review!

Her best video yet! Man, can she pull of the angry girlfriend look! I loved the expression she had when she came face to face with the boyfriend and the bleach blonde tramp. This video is definitly more exciting than any of Kelly's videos and I don't think it is right to blame her lack of sales on "Bad promotion". Stop making excuses for Kelly, it's pathetic.

Carrie's good, and her album is my guilty pleasure. But compare to Kelly, she still has a long way to go. Kelly definitely has more personality to show, whereas I can never connect with Carrie. They're both doing an awesome job though, but I can still see myself as Kelly's long-term fan. Oh yeah, if Kelly produced a country album, I'm sure it will be better (have you heard her sing country songs? It's like Carrie, but with more soul!)

In no way am I trying to compare Kelly and Carrie as far as talent or as artists. I love them both, but if I had to pick one of the two, Kelly would be my singer of choice.
In comparing their chart success, however, I was simply trying to point out the great success Carrie has had on radio and on the Billboard charts as far as airplay and sales. And since Kelly has been greatly successful in both, and is also a previous American Idol winner, I felt she was a fit comparison to demonstrate how great Carrie has done for herself since winning.
