While it may seems as if they come out every month, this is only the third hits collects for the Now That’s What I Call Music! series in 2010 (they had other genres released, but no other Top 40 collections). Starting the year off with the very well rounded Vol’s 33 and 34, it is safe to say that they have once again outdone themselves.
Leading off with what will be remembered as the anthem of 2010 is Katy Perry’s mega-smash, "California Gurls," which is great as it would be hard to think of a better song to summarize the past couple of months. While she has not reached the iconic level of Lady Gaga, Perry’s career and talent are still strong and she has the staying power that many may have not thought she would after bursting on the scene with the novelty-drenched, but larger then life cut, “I Kissed A Girl,” a couple of years back.
Perry kicks off the party on the CD, but it does not slow down as David Guetta’s "Gettin' Over You" and Black Eyed Peas’ "Rock That Body" keep the intensity level flowing.
British-based synthpop duo, LA Roux, make their first appearance on a US issued Now CD with "Bulletproof." The song, which is heavily influenced from the dance/synth bands of the 80s (e.g. Human League, Yaz), took a while to break in the States (La Roux’s debut CD was released nearly a year ago) but has become a bona fide dance floor staple, while, the expected his are here as well (Gaga’s"Alejandro, Travie McCoy’s "Billionaire" and the light, but pleasing, Hip-Hop of Jason Derülo "Ridin' Solo”).
Another successful addition to a series that most likely (and should never) stop.
