Music Review: Various Artists (Disney) — Wizards of Waverly Place Soundtrack

Everyone has days where they just feel blah. It’s not that they are having a bad day. Instead, it’s more they have a lack of energy. Today was one of those days for me. After firing up Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place Soundtrack, I found the desire to dance and the direction of my day changed for the better.

The album features 12 tracks by various Disney artists including the show’s star, Selena Gomez, Steve Rushton, Honor Society, Mitchel Musso, KSM, Meaghan Martin, Raven-Symone, Drew Seeley, and Aly and AJ.

I am particularly impressed with the tracks by Selena Gomez and Drew Seeley. I owned a couple songs by each of them before I got this album and that was the main reason I picked up this album. Their vocals are amazing. Selena has four songs and Drew has one. Drew’s is probably my favorite from the album.

I am not a big fan of Aly and AJ. Most of their songs give me a headache, because they are just too much for me to handle, but I quite enjoyed their song off this album, “Do You Believe in Magic.”

I think Meaghan Martin is an amazing actress. She is currently starring in the ABC Family show, 10 Things I Hate About You, which I watch every week. What I didn’t realize is Meaghan Martin is a very good singer too. She sings “Magic.”

I suppose I am no longer in the age demographic Disney is aiming at. I turned 18 last month. I don’t watch Wizards of Waverly Place regularly, although I have seen many episodes. Regardless, I think this is a great album and although the music was inspired by the TV show, you don’t need to be a fan of the TV show to enjoy the music.

After a while, some of the songs sound the same, because it’s all talking about magic, but I still enjoyed it. There were three songs called “Magic,” which got annoying after a while. However, that is not enough to make me dislike an album. There was one song I didn’t like, but 11 out of 12 isn’t bad. If you don’t like pop music, don’t buy this album. 90% of the music I listen to is country, but I still enjoyed the album.

Really there were two things that made this music worth buying: the songs by Selena Gomez, Drew Seeley, and Meaghan Martin and how danceable this music is. It really changed the entire pace of my day.
