No doubt, James Bond will return. Will Sam Mendes? If so, likely so will Newman as well. If so, we can look forward to more vibrant music worthy of what's up there on the silver screen. But, Sony, give the singer a little respect—as well as your soundtrack customers. You might find a wider audience if the full package is really the full package.

Excellent review and I agree with all of your points. Certainly rewatching the film after allowing the soundtrack to become familiar helps to establish what Newman has done. I was a little disappointed with the lack of themes which is something that Barry and Arnold do particularly well, however Newman has created an atmospheric soundtrack which supports rather than intrudes into the narrative.
I would have liked the soundtrack to feature Adele's title song and also Judi Dench's reading of Tennyson over that track which gave me goose pimples both times I saw it!

I have watched the film three times, bought both Adele's CD and the soundtrack - I agree that the package should be the full package and that the audince that buy/collect the staff would be more satisfied if Adele is also on the soundtrack CD. The music is great, I listen to it every day when I translate (it actually motivates me) and I hope Newman will finally get an Oscar even though the Skyfall is not necessarily his best work, some may think.
