After listening to all that loud screaming music all the time, it is nice to sit down and hear the Bears. The indie-pop band from Cleveland, OH has released Shortest Day Of The Year a gentle acoustic EP by Craig Ramsey and Charlie McArthur. Both gentlemen wrote all seven dark and gloomy songs for the CD.
Almost reminding me of something from the 70s, the Bears play mellow rock that is soothing to the ear even if the lyrics refer to losing love and having bad days. Depressed pretty much sums up how the Bears roll on this EP. The CD was written in the cold Cleveland winter season so I must say it is appropriate.
The CD opens with the tune “Those Years”, a very sad song in which you will wind find the lyrics relating to some time in life. “You Can Tell” is a little jam about adjusting at the end of the relationship. “All I” was another track on the CD that stood out. My personal favorite on the EP was the depressing as hell “My Pain”. Not only do the lyrics bring you down, but the piano makes for such a gloomy track.
The Bears surprisingly have not really been noticed in Cleveland as much as they have nationally. They have played numerous shows in support of their previous full length release and have a generous fan base. This EP is not like their full length so if you feel that the EP is a little too down for your indie-rock taste, I suggest you check out their self titled debut release. If you are looking for some music that is beautiful and heartbreaking then you really should check out Shortest Day Of The Year.
