“Ghetto Love” kicks off the CD, channeling old '80s alt/punk rock. “Geeking” has a the vibe of summer abandon. But, the fourth track, “Baptized By Fire”, is the song that stuck in my head for days. This one song makes this whole record worth having. It's got an epic chorus and really embodies the mystical shamanistic music I mentioned earlier. Cool, cool song.
Apparently, Dalle has experienced divorce, marriage and motherhood during the past two years. Her experiences, feelings, needs during all this found voice in Spinnerette. On “Distorting A Code” she sings, with the proper amount of melancholy: “But the past it tangles into everything I know.” That feeling runs through the everything, while not giving in to depression.
She works through the events of the past couple of years, the rest of the band brings their talent to bear and we are left with a surprisingly exciting debut record. Try not to miss Spinnerrette.
