Music Review: Seventh Day Slumber - Take Everything

Christian rock band Seventh Day Slumber is back with their third CD Take Everything. While quite a few of the songs are well known worship songs with a Seventh Day Slumber flair to them, I enjoyed this CD.

The band got their start in the mid 90s and basically operated as an independent artist spreading the gospel for quite a few years before signing to a label. With lyrics who's main focus is on the issues teens today face like suicide, drugs, living in abusive homes, drinking, sex, etc., Seventh Day Slumber has risen up the charts to become one of the premiere Christian Rock bands today.

Consisting of three members, Joseph Rojas (vocals/guitar), Joshua Schwartz (bass) and Jeremy Holderfield (guitar), their music is comparable to secular bands like Nickelback, Three Doors Down, Staind, and Creed.

The band pulled well known worship songs that everyone is familiar with, and that have been recorded by numerous artists and combined them with their own spin of grunge rock and raspy vocals. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed the CD, there wasn't anything new or exciting really about it. While there are a few original songs that will probably receive a lot of airtime, there is nothing special about the rest of it. Instead we're given yet another recording of "I Can Only Imagine".

The Song "Oceans From The Rain" was originally released on the album Once Upon A Shattered Life.

While I did enjoy this CD, I didn't find anything about it earth shattering. It is yet another worship CD, not really distinguishable from any other. If you're a Seventh Day Slumber fan, you'll probably like it. If you're looking for the heavy metal Christian rock that they've recorded in the past, you won't find it here.
