Listening to Happy in Galoshes and his previous solo record 12 Bar Blues has brought me to the inescapable conclusion that Weiland is better on his own. His boundless ego, restless spirit, and penchant for indulgence aren't more likely to be checked within the confines of a band, but the art he creates when allowed to chase his own vision is better. Velvet Revolver never completely fit him and a return to STP for new music would be a step backward. Art imitates life for Weiland and he probably wouldn't have it any other way. Unfortunately, that means there are going to be some messes and missteps along the way. For better and worse, this solo path is the path Weiland should tread.
