Music Review: Raffi - Songs of Our World - Page 2

The voice that has guided so many children through the precious, playful years of their sweet, halcyon days of youth remains strong, clear and calm. If you’ve ever seen Raffi perform, or have watched one of his recorded appearances, it’s easy to see he’s nothing like the bouncy, speed-ball performers in zany costumes that register as only short blips on the children’s music scene.

Never the flavour of the month, his album, book and video sales have remained strong over three decades without any direct advertising to children. He’s a rock of children’s music, steady, stable and comforting, always there. His career is a reflection of his voice and his songs. He’s a classic, and though this particular disc was a miss for our family, we’re nevertheless the happy owners of his other CDs, DVDs, board books and paperbacks. Raffi – we love you, bring back "Baby Beluga" (again, Animal Songs is the answer)! Perhaps I sound like an old codger who's unwilling to accept Raffi's new material, but that's not entirely true; in our house, we think "Bananaphone" is lots of fun!

Songs of Our World is served up simply in a digipack of chlorine free paper, printed with soy inks. Note liners aren’t included but can be found as .pdf downloads on Raffinews.com.

Yep, Raffi turned into an "eco-troubadour" about twenty years ago, but his undeniable charm remains. How can not like Raffi?

He may make singable songs for the very young, but by golly, I like "Robin In The Rain," too.

Thanks Pico :). I agree - "Robin in the Rain" is terribly addictive. It's a big hit at our house. It drives my husband crazy when he can't quite remember all of the lyrics, as it often becomes stuck in his mind.
