There is an episode of the show Seinfeld where the character of Elaine, played by Julia Louis Dreyfus, declares that due to a shortage in the birth control aid known as “the sponge” that the men she meets must, among her other lengthy dating criteria, be “sponge-worthy” if they want to experience her feminine charms.
Now, I’m no where near as picky when it comes to picking potential sex partners, but I can relate to Elaine’s highbrow standards when it comes to what I put on my iPod. Given that fact that it takes an act of congress, and some often user-unfriendly software to get songs off an iPod once they are there a song can’t only be good, it has to be iPod worthy.
I’m going to use that rationale to rate each song on Mullets Rock! Too!: Mullets in Love the new compilation of 70’s and 80’s “love song” from Legacy Records.
The CD contains 18 tear-jerking tracks, so with out further ado, I will weigh in on each of them just for you my faithful, and often insulting, readers.
1.) “Wang Dang Sweet Poontang” by Ted Nugent
I like Ted Nugent and this is one of his typical high energy ode’s to trim. It’s good but not his best song and therefore I’d have to say it is not a fit candidate for my hard drive space. I’d probably be more inclined to download one of the frequent tirades he often spouts forth in Radio and Television interviews.
2.) “Do Ya” by Ace Frehley
The “Space Ace” turns in a decent cover of this song, originally written by Tom Petty associate Jeff Lynne. I usually turn this up when it comes on the radio but I think that’s where I’ll leave it.
3.) “More Than a Feeling” by Boston
I’ve really got no use for this song. It really just epitomizes everything that was wrong with 70’s rock. Sure, I’ll admit I know all the words but I don’t like the song enough to even transfer it to iTunes much less let it grace my iPod.
