Marilyn Carino and Benny Cha Cha are the two artists behind the captivating sounds of Mudville. The duo was responsible for the highly acclaimed album The Glory Of Man Is Not In Vogue, released in 2005. They now return with another long player, Iris Nova, that's sure to impress old and new fans alike.
This time around, Mudville invited a few of their musical friends and peer to help craft their sound. Iris Nova features such notables as R.E.M's Mike Mills, Karsh Kale, pedal steel guitarist Buddy Cage, Michael Blake (Lounge Lizards), and Jim Campilongo (The Little Willies). They all come together to complete the beautiful sonics of Iris Nova, making this CD a keeper!
There are several stand out tracks on this disc. They bravely tackle the mega hit, "Spirits in the Material World", with amazing results. At times it seems like Marilyn's voice can do no wrong, as she soars above the music and glides into the vocal booth with her captivating voice. The reworking of The Police classic is one of those examples as she truly reworks the standard and makes it her own.
"Sado" is another example of this with it's seductively light sound and angelic guitars and Hammond piano chords, provided by Buddy Cage and Benny. “This Hollywood Life” is ready for it’s close up, with it’s ready for the movie soundtrack sound. In fact, Mudville may be ready for their close up, as this album is sure to send tons of bright lights their way!
Iris Nova is in stores now, so make sure you look for it at your local retailer. You can hear their entire album before you buy it, at their website.
