Music can create a wonderful blend of atmosphere, memories, hopes, longings, regrets, and just about every other conceivable emotion. With that profound thought in mind, I point you towards Mario Percudani’s recent solo release New Day, an album that is, as it claims to be, for just about everybody.
If I owned a laid back lakeside bar specialising in the ultra chilled out atmosphere that many of us seek and often fail to find, then New Day would be playing there.
Multi-talented guitarist/vocalist Mario was born in Lodi, Italy, in 1979, and by the age of ten was already playing to large audiences at local tourist resorts. He developed a passion for America’s west coast sound, and his first band Keys Of Desire helped him to explore this chosen direction.
Now he is very much part of the Italian melodic rock band Hungryheart, whose recent album One Ticket To Paradise, along with their self-titled debut were both enthusiastically reviewed here on Eurorock.
Just after that Mario sent me New Day and I’m glad he did. It has blown through here like a cool breeze on a warm day - a New Day in fact. As fresh as spring itself this perfectly titled CD will have you relaxed and at ease amid this crazy world in a matter of moments.
Lovingly created from a rich and satisfying blend of styles, New Day radiates mature song writing, delicate themes, easy melodies, and a deliciously smooth delivery.
Candle-lit dinners in good company and lonely homeward bound journeys are the perfect setting for this classy album. Mario’s warm vocals impress throughout, and his laid back style allows space for his delicately weaved guitar to shine through.
Anyone coming at this from the Hungryheart direction hardly needs me to tell them about Mario’s skill as vocalist, writer, and guitarist. However, this album takes a very different direction. It is one that suits him very well indeed. New Day takes us to the intimate, melodic, evergreen territory of the gentle soul, blues, and laid back west coast vibe. It is a place he eases into effortlessly.
