Music Review: Leigh Jones - Music in My Soul - Page 2

Despite her soulful chops, her cover of DeBarge’s “All This Love” is surprisingly restrained.  It would have been interesting to hear what she could do with Marie’s classic “Portuguese Love”, a tune that would play to Jones' greatest strength - jazz-tinged R&B.

Leigh JonesThe bottom line? Music in My Soul lacks a “Square Biz” or “I Need Your Lovin’”, but still makes for pleasant listening. In future releases, Jones should forge a unique identity rather than just ceding to trends. Her fluidity in jazz and blues as well as soul would make her a welcome addition to the contemporary jazz genre. Jones's debut marks the very beginnings of a talented artist just before she finds her niche. It will be interesting to see how her music evolves from here.
