Now it could be argued that the title track, thankfully at the end, being a full 22 minutes long is rather taking the piss, but it's not all that bad, if you stick with it. There is no question that these guys can play and have the chops. The fleeting moments of tweeness and cliched lyrics are off-set just enough.
Viking Skull: Doom, Gloom, Heartache & Whiskey
This is one of those that, even if you had never heard the band play a single note, you have a general idea you are going to like it. The CD starts out with the oh so subtle “Start a War” (the perfect track I have found for realm vs realm in Warhammer Online if playing Destruction) and keeps on going into the realms of straight ahead stoner rock.
Motorhead, a touch of AC/DC and a healthy dose of Black Sabbath are the not-so-subtle influences on show here. The title track manages to encompase all these bands with a touch of originality tosed on top for good measure. There is no underestimating how fun these bunch of bone-heads are to listen to in the end. If you think the bonehead tag is too harsh just take a listen to the ode to drinking called…”Drink”. They lofty aims for their drinking session I can tell you.
Not the longest record, but like Motorhead it does not have to hang around for long. This is great heavy rock and roll that can hold its head up to the latest from AC/DC and Motorhead. And you are left with a feeling you want to see then live as soon as possible.
