Rewinding to 2008, there was a teenager with dreadlocks who could belt out a rhythm apparently not strong enough for American Idol. After getting booted off the show in fourth place, Jason Castro was pushed into a future filled with melody. That was all the Texas singer-songwriter needed to launch his musical journey with Atlantic Records.

On to 2010, Castro delivered his first acoustic release, The Love Uncompromised EP. It has a solid foundation with the first track and lead single, “Let’s Just Fall In Love Again.” The simple and catchy guitar riff allows Jason Castro’s beautiful melody-minded creativity to shine thru. Those who watched American Idol fell in love with Castro’s down-to-earth personality backed by an insatiable musical appetite. With the passionate vocals produced in “Sweet Medicine,” Castro’s musical intimacy and passion for the art clearly shines forth throughout the five tracks. “I feel like the album really captures my personality,” Castro says. “People got to know me a bit on the show, so I wanted to build on that by including all these songs I’ve written about my life. I wanted to share with people the things that are meaningful to me.”

“You Can Always Come Home” features a beautiful and charming guest duet vocal performance from label mate, Serena Ryder. “Sweet Medicine” is in my mind the strength of this album. Coincidentally, this is the final track on the EP that leads us toward his debut self-titled full length that is scheduled for a spring 2010 release.

With his mellow voice that could fit many labels and genres, Jason Castro’s The Love Uncompromised  is going to attract a very diverse audience. Although soft, acoustic love songs command the album, Castro’s innate ability to produce a brilliant pop-rock sound is present throughout. If you have a passion for songwriting, this EP features a fantastic original sound fit for many musical tastes.
