It would be wrong to suggest that Friendly Fires doesn't nod to Klaxons Myths of The Near Future, but that in itself is far from a condemnation; Myths... whilst being far from ground breaking, was a thrilling record which rescued a thousand university wallflowers from spending all night skulking next to cloakrooms. But there is far more to it than that; the band count amongst their influences the fx pedal doyens of the early nineties shoegaze scene and whilst admittedly you have to listen close to hear the molecular traces of the likes of Thee Telescopes here, they still share an obvious devotion to letting music remain a transport to who knows where.
It seems like there are no boundaries which can't be traversed any more - guitar toting hipsters in the time it takes to change a costume can the next minute be making disco as sweet as Diana Ross. In St. Albans behind the twitching curtains, they're asking whatever is next.
