Music Review: Framing Hanley - The Moment

Hailing from the remarkable Nashville rock scene, Framing Hanley debuts their full length CD The Moment. The young rock band may not have been around for long but any listener could be fooled from what they hear. Formed by high school friends just a couple years ago, originally as Ember’s Fade, the band became noticed on the local rock scene and soon were picked up by indie label Silent Majority Group. Once the band signed they changed their name to Framing Hanley and quickly put together their debut release.

I admit I questioned the band’s name before I took a gander at the CD insert. The name really did not seem too striking, especially for what I was about to hear. Once I did open the CD insert to the last page and saw the framed picture of a young girl I kind of figured something was up – I was correct.

In October 2006, one of the band’s biggest fans tragically lost her life. She was more than just a fan as she helped promote the band and turned into a dear friend to the band. Her young life lost will never be forgotten by Framing Hanley as their band name is a tribute to the young Ashley Hanley; she was also dating the drummer.

Imagine Hawthorn Heights if they were not picked on and given atomic wedgies in high school. It’s rock with just a dash of screamo, making for a first-rate style of music. These guys are young too, so there is plenty of time for them to continue making music. At times I feel a vocal style of Brandon Boyd of Incubus make for interesting songs.

Opening track “Home” is immediately radio friendly. The song is rock but has an emo feel to it, minus the whining, while reminding me of Three Days Grace meets Daughtry. “Built For Sin” once again is a very radio friendly song. It’s a little slower than the previous track but has a refrain that is catching. The lyrics speak of someone who is hiding their bad side.
